What is Nano Model railroading?

Nano model railroading is model railroading at a scale of 1:1,000. How on earth is this possible? Quite frankly, at the moment I don't know how possible it is but the technology exists to do it. So I'm going to have a go.

First night nerves

This is it.
Tomorrow my nano trains get their first showing at the Granite City Train show in St. Cloud, Minnesota. I hope it doesn't let me down. It works perfectly at the moment.
Hopefully before the weekend is out I will share with you my experiences and reactions of the viewers

  1. How did things go? I've been waiting for an update!! How many "projects" you got on the go at the moment?
By the way, last weekend I was talking to a model railway company who had just got back from Japan. They were shown a new system, based on iPads and iTablets. The software is used to design a town with either a railway or a tram system, and then tiny models are placed on the screen. It is then possible to control and move the trains around the screen. It works, maybe, on magnetic levitation interacting with the touch sensitive screen. Scale? They wwere not sure about but might be about 1/1000th. About 3 years away from commercial reality. System designed to draw kids away from gaming consoles, and use their brains to create and control.

  2. As you will now see David I have uploaded some video (shot on an iPhone) of the Nano layout. It ran like this pretty much all day. Though, a slight knock of the table or someone placing something metal too near the track was a recipe for disaster.
